The Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University organized a field trip
to Hmoud Village in Karak on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, where the site of the
new project for the Design 3 course, Sustainable Inn Design, is located. The
trip was accompanied by the course coordinator and instructor, Dr. Lara
Al-Shawawreh. The students were accompanied by Dr. Mazen Al-Kheetan, Engineer
Muath Al-Kheetan, and Mr. Aysar Halasa. The tour began with the ancient church
of Hmoud, learning about its construction story and structural style. Then,
they visited the old market, where Engineer Muath explained the rich and
influential history of the market in the region, along with the history of the
mill and the old school. Finally, they toured a family home belonging to Mr.
Marwan Al-Kheetan, who shared the story of renovating the house while
preserving its old design. At the end of the tour, Engineer Ward Al-Kheetan
joined them, also sharing stories about the village heritage and the new
generation's connection to their ancestors' land. Many thanks to Dr. Mazen
Al-Kheetan from the Civil Engineering Department for hosting us in his village,
Hmoud, arranging the tour, coordinating with the speakers, accompanying us, and
providing the opportunity for students to interact with the local community.
Much love and appreciation to all the people of Hmoud for their hospitality and
cooperation with the students in all field trips, and we hope this project will
be implemented on the ground someday because Hmoud deserves it.
