Based on the role played by university colleges in shaping and preparing the
future generation and builders of tomorrow, and in recognition of the
importance of students in the educational process, the College of Engineering
has dedicated its efforts to preparing a confident and competent generation.
This is achieved through training and involving students in decision-making
processes. The College views students as important strategic partners and
supporters in the educational process, essential pillars in development. Since
assuming leadership in the College of Engineering, the administration has taken
responsibility for uplifting students, equipping them with knowledge, nurturing
national consciousness, and fostering allegiance to Jordan and to Mu'tah University.

Sunday, July 28, 2024: Inauguration
of the Materials Science and Energy Laboratory (MSEL)
Under the patronage of His
Excellency the President of Mutah University, Professor Salameh Al-Nuaimat, the
Materials Science and Energy Laboratory (MSEL) was inaugurated. This laboratory
is envisioned to be a cornerstone for the research infrastructure at Mutah
University, aligning with the university's vision to empower research teams and
elevate the institution's status among distinguished research universities.
The Dean of the College of
Engineering, Professor Jamal Bani Salameh, welcomed His Excellency the
University President and his accompanying delegation. He provided an overview
of the project's objectives and its benefits to the university and faculty
members of the College of Engineering, emphasizing its potential for fostering
collaboration with other universities.
Dr. Qusay Al-Kaseasbeh, the project
director, expressed gratitude to the university administration for their
generous support, which served as the foundation for establishing this
laboratory with a budget of 177,000 JOD over three years. The laboratory aims
to be a central hub for research and development, adhering to international
standards and specifications for research laboratories. It seeks to enhance
research quality, support investment in the university, and open avenues for
collaboration between various Jordanian universities and the industrial sector
in Jordan.

Community of Mutah University in the Open Day for the Women in Engineering
Community - Jordan Branch 2024
The Women in Engineering community of Mutah University, IEEE WIE Mutah
University, participated in the Open Day for the Women in Engineering community
- Jordan Branch 2024 on Saturday, 20th July 2024, at Al-Balqa Applied
University - Polytechnic. The event featured success stories of Jordanian and
Arab female engineers, as well as panel discussions, interactive sessions, and
exhibits from Women in Engineering communities across various Jordanian
universities. Special thanks to Dr. Rula Rawashdeh, Dr. Najat Al-Masarweh, and
Dr. Al-Anoud Al-Sarairah for their participation and support.

in the annual meeting of the main branch in Jordan:
The IEEE branch at Mutah University participated in the annual meeting of
the main branch in Jordan, held at the Landmark Hotel in Amman on Tuesday, May
28. The meeting was attended by Professor Jamal Bani Salameh, Dean of the
College of Engineering; Professor Mustafa Hammad, Dean of the College of
Information Technology; Dr. Rola Rawashdeh, Head of the IEEE branch at Mutah
University; Dr. Najat Al-Masaraweh, Head of the Department of Industrial
Systems Engineering; and Dr. Al-Anoud Al-Saraireh, Head of the Department of
Chemical Engineering. Student Ahmed Al-Saraireh, representing the IEEE student
branch at Mutah University, presented the branch's activities and events, as
well as the courses and training workshops it provides for students. On the
sidelines of the meeting, discussions were held about several future plans for
upcoming events and activities aimed at enhancing students' skills and
optimally preparing them for the job market.

Monday, May 27, 2024: The
participation of Dr. Al-Anoud Al-Saraireh in a seminar about the dead sea
Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, the
esteemed President of the Higher Council for Science and Technology, Dr.
Al-Anoud Al-Saraireh, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, participated
in the seminar held at the King Hussein Club on Monday, May 27, 2024.
Representing Mutah University, the seminar was titled "Exploiting National
Resources and Dead Sea Minerals." The seminar addressed the key activities
undertaken by institutions, the challenges they face, and their innovative
suggestions and solutions for the optimal utilization of these resources. Such
efforts are expected to have a positive impact, contributing to the support of
the national economy and advancing development.
Ø 7th and 8th of May, 2024: The participation of both Professor
Salah Al-Jbour and Dr. Ziad Al-Majali in the activities of the workshop
The participation of both Professor Salah Al-Jbour and Dr. Ziad Al-Majali in
the activities of the workshop "The Reality and Prospects of Minerals Used
in Clean Energy Technologies in Arab Countries," held on the 7th and 8th
of May, 2024. The workshop was sponsored by the Minister of Energy and Mineral
Resources and organized by the Ministry, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory
Commission, and the Arab Organization for Industrial Development,
Standardization, and Mining, with attendance exceeding 200 participants. The
workshop, over the course of two days, discussed various themes such as Arab
mining investment opportunities, value and supply chains, innovation and
digital transformation, clean energy technologies and sustainability, financing
and added value. It also reviewed leading Arab and international experiences in
the field of minerals used in clean energy technologies, with the participation
of officials, experts, and interested parties from the Arab countries that are
members of the Arab Organization for Industrial Development, Standardization,
and Mining, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western
Asia (ESCWA), which includes 20 Arab countries in the Western Asia region. The
workshop, being held for the first time in the Arab world, gains its importance
due to the recent increase in demand for rare minerals available in the Arab
region within diverse geological environments and mineral provinces such as
aluminum, copper, and lithium, used to build wind turbines, electric cars,
solar panels, batteries, and electrical grids, as well as modern digital
technologies, making the Arab region a sustainable mining hub for producing
energy transition minerals at the global level. The workshop represents an
opportunity for exchanging expertise and discussions among stakeholders in the
mineral wealth sector, experts, and interested parties from both public and
private sectors in Arab countries to support and develop the sector of minerals
used in clean energy technologies, especially as the global outlook is directed
towards enhancing energy transition to face climate change and keeping pace
with existing and expected technological advancements, linking infrastructure
sectors, digital technology, and manufacturing industries to the mining sector
to achieve sustainable development goals.The workshop witnessed wide
participation from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Iraq, Mauritania, Tunisia, Morocco,
Libya, and Yemen.

Tuesday, 28, 2024: The Department of Architecture at
Mutah University hosted Honoring Professor Abbas Ajam by the Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering upon the Conclusion of His Service at
the University:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Mutah University
held a farewell and recognition ceremony for Professor Abbas Ajam at the
University Staff Club, in appreciation of his distinguished scientific and
teaching contributions during his tenure at Mutah University, which spanned
more than 26 years. Professor Ayman Al-Momani, representing the department,
presented Professor Abbas Ajam with an honorary shield. Additionally, the
department hosted a luncheon for its members in honor of Professor Abbas Ajam.
Ø Academic Year 2023/2024
Dr. Khaled Al-Awasa and
Prof. Abdullah Al- have received a fund from the Royal Academy of Engineering
Dr. Khaled Al-Awasa and
Prof. Abdullah Al-Oudenat from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the
College of Engineering have received a fund from the Royal Academy of
Engineering, UK for their project that was submitted for the call:
"Transforming Systems through Partnership". The title of the project:
"Fostering Clean Energy Transition in Jordan Utilizing Energy Storage
Technologies and Integrating Demand Side Management." The research team
comprises three Jordanian universities (Mutah University, Tafila Technical
University, and Applied Science Private University), Northumbria University in
the UK, and three local companies: National Electric Power Company,
Philadelphia Solar Energy Company, and Sadeem Solar Energy Systems. Projects
seeking support from the Royal Academy of Engineering undergo a rigorous
evaluation process by international reviewers approved by the academy. A large
number of projects competed for the support, and this project was among the few
selected. This project exemplifies the partnership between Jordanian academic
institutions and the Jordanian industrial sector in scientific research aimed
at providing solutions based on scientific foundations to the problems facing
the Jordanian energy sector, including renewable energy sources, where Jordan
has become a regional leader in their adoption as a clean source.

5-16, 2024: The IEEE branch at Mutah University conducted a MATLAB
The IEEE branch at Mutah University conducted a MATLAB course from May 5th
to 16th, 2023, taught by student Ibrahim Al-Tarawneh. The course covered the
fundamentals of MATLAB, clearly explaining all concepts to facilitate understanding
for students. It emphasized the importance of MATLAB in both academic and
practical applications across various disciplines. The course highlighted the
benefits of MATLAB in simplifying academic subjects that require precise
problem-solving and those that involve graphing. It also covered how to
construct and solve equations using MATLAB in a very short time, and how to
handle programming commands related to scripts and functions provided by
MATLAB.

Wednesday,
May 15, 2024, the Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University hosted
engineer Saif Samirat to deliver a lecture to our students titled:
"Designing Tomorrow: Your First Day in AI as an Architect." In this
interactive and valuable lecture, engineer Saif provided an overview of the
advancements in the field of architecture in the presence of artificial
intelligence and discussed how it should be used consciously while maintaining
professional ethics. This unique lecture offered our students the first steps
towards entering the world of artificial intelligence, breaking the barrier
between them and a new door of technological architectural knowledge that must
be kept up with. We extend our gratitude to engineer Saif for this enjoyable
lecture and all the advice he provided to the students. We look forward to more
collaboration in the future within the Department of Architecture. Special
thanks also go to engineer Yazan Mahadeen, who joined the department this
semester as a part-time lecturer, for organizing this valuable lecture and for
all his efforts with our students.
Ø Tuesday, May 14, 2024: The College of Engineering at Mu'tah University achieved
first place in the 11th National Technological Festival
The College of Engineering
at Mu'tah University achieved first place in the 11th National Technological
Festival, held at the University of Jordan, within the axis of green and
sustainable technologies, for the project "Designing and Testing
Protective Overcurrent Relay Using RTDS" by students Rashid Abdullah
Al-Adinat, Abdullah Hussein Aldmour, and Raed Haroun Al-Rafay’ah, supervised by
Dr. Amneh Al-Mubaydeen. The project was implemented using Real-Time Digital
Simulation (RTDS) technology, available in a special laboratory at the
university, making Mu'tah University the only university in Jordan possessing
this technology. It is noteworthy that the festival, which commenced on
Tuesday, included several projects in engineering disciplines and information
technology, with broad participation from various Jordanian universities
competing for top positions. The festival aims to stimulate students'
creativity and innovation, and to link the expected outputs of research and
graduation projects in Jordanian universities with the needs of the national
industry. It also aims to bridge communication between university students,
institutions, and companies to provide employment and training opportunities
for participating students.

of civil engineering students from the College of Engineering participated in
the Engineers' Communication Forum organized by the Jordan Engineers
Association
A group of civil engineering students from the College of
Engineering participated in the Engineers' Communication Forum organized by the
Jordan Engineers Association at the Landmark Hotel, accompanied by Dr. Tareq
Al-Jaafreh. The students attended several dialogue sessions focusing on various
topics, notably aligning engineering education with the job market and
preparing Jordanian engineers to work in Jordan and globally, including
countries like Germany and Gulf countries. The forum also included specialized
lectures on concrete, paints, and innovative approaches in ceiling design.
Additionally, on the sidelines of the forum, the students visited an exhibition
showcasing concrete products, surveying equipment, paints, and virtual reality
technology.

students visit the South Korean Energy Company in Qatraneh, Karak
Chemical Engineering students,
studying Process Dynamics and Control course, visited the South Korean Energy
Company in Qatraneh, Karak. During the visit, they were briefed on electricity
generation using a Combined Cycle Power Plant and were provided examples of
control systems in the company. Additionally, students toured the plant to
closely observe generation and control operations.

Department hosts Engineer Farah Al-Kasasbeh
The Architecture Department hosted
Engineer Farah Al-Kasasbeh on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to conduct a workshop in
Freehand Drawing II, taught by Dr. Jinan Abu Qadurah. The workshop aimed to
introduce students to marker drawing techniques and apply them practically to
enhance their artistic and expressive skills in freehand drawing, allowing
students to acquire new skills in using available artistic tools and materials,
applying them to various architectural forms and topics. The workshop also
contributed to enhancing students' creative thinking abilities and developing
their visual and pictorial expression skills. Special thanks to Engineer Farah
for this informative and enjoyable workshop, and we look forward to further collaboration
in the future.

Middle East and North Africa visits the Architecture Department
The Architecture Department at
Mu'tah University welcomed Mr. As'ad Al-Ayitan, representative of the
Excellence Award and coordinator of the award in the Middle East and North
Africa, along with his team Nada Ayoub, Lena Saydam, Nouran Faouri, and Saif
Haddadin, on Thursday, May 9, 2024. Mr. Al-Ayitan introduced the department's
students to the Excellence Award program, including the International
Graduation Projects Award, the Diwan Architecture Award, and the Rafa Al-Jadari
Award. Special thanks to the team members for this valuable visit, and we hope
it will yield fruitful participation of department students in various award
competitions.

Architecture Department students
from Mu'tah University participated in the student exhibition titled
"Rebuilding Gaza Using Artificial Intelligence," accompanying the
Seventh International Jordanian Architectural Conference. Under the supervision
of Dr. Lara Shawawreh, the department showcased four projects covering various
sectors:
- Residential Sector, designed by Amal Al-lasasameh,
Amira Hijazeen, Hiba Almajali, and Zainab Horoub.
- Educational Sector, designed by Dima Sarayreh, Sarah
Mubaydeen, Taghreed Tarawneh, and Layan Alzaru.

The Architecture Department at Mu'tah University participated in the Seventh
International Jordanian Architectural Conference. This participation falls
within the framework of external engagements aimed at enriching students'
knowledge, supporting their expertise, and involving them in national and
university-level events and societal institutions. The conference was organized
by the Jordan Engineers Association/Architectural Engineering Branch under the
patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh, under the theme
"Architecture and Artificial Intelligence (ARCH-AI)".
Representing the department were faculty members: Dr. Lara Shawawreh, the
department chair, Dr. Jinan Abu Qadurah, and Dr. Yumna Aldmour. Several
students from the third and fourth years also participated actively,
contributing through attendance, organization, or participation in the student
exhibition. The conference discussed the importance of artificial intelligence
as a new knowledge that will shape the future and emphasized the necessity to
incorporate it into various aspects of architectural engineering. This was
achieved through diverse sessions moderated and discussed by architects and
academics from across the nation. Ideas, perspectives, practical, and
scientific experiences were exchanged.
The student exhibition accompanying the conference showcased projects for
the reconstruction of Gaza using artificial intelligence, designed by
architecture students from Jordanian universities.
We extend our gratitude to the College of Engineering, represented by the
dean, and to the Architecture Department, represented by all faculty members,
for this unique opportunity that allowed us to engage with the architectural
community while still students. We also thank the Architectural Branch of the Jordan
Engineers Association, represented by the branch president, Engineer Imad
Dabbas, for their efforts in integrating students into the activities of the
Engineers Association.
Additionally, on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, 2024, Dr. Lara Shawawreh,
the head of the Architecture Department, was honored twice during the
proceedings of the Seventh International Jordanian Architectural Conference.
Minister of Public Works, Engineer Maher Abu Al-Samen, and the representative
of the patron of the conference, Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh, honored
Dr. Lara Shawawreh for her contributions as a member of the conference's
preparatory committee. The conference took place over two days at the Landmark
Hotel in Amman under the theme "Architecture and Artificial
Intelligence." Dr. Shawawreh was also honored for chairing one of its
sessions on "Smart Construction and Smart Cities."
Ø Thursday, April 18, 2024: Hosting Dr. Yasmeen Akour from the
University of Science and Technology
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the Architecture Department at Mu'tah
University hosted Dr. Yasmeen Akour from the University of Science and
Technology via Teams platform to deliver a lecture to fourth-year students in
the Architectural Design (6) course. In her lecture, Dr. Yasmeen discussed the
fundamental principles and practical steps of urban design, along with possible
strategies to follow. The last part of the lecture was dedicated to answering
students' questions regarding their proposed designs for their current project,
"Sports City in Al-Karak." We extend our gratitude to Dr. Yasmeen
Akour for this valuable and engaging lecture, and we look forward to further
collaboration in the future within the Architecture Department.
Ø Monday, April 1, 2024: Faculty Ramadan Iftar at the College
On April 1, 2024, corresponding to the twenty-first day of the blessed month
of Ramadan, the Social Committee at the College of Engineering organized an
Iftar for the faculty members at Saraya Al-Qala'a restaurant. The venue's
beauty, heritage, and its connection to the majestic Karak Castle added to the
event's ambiance. During the gathering, Professor Jamal Bani Salameh, Dean of
the College of Engineering, delivered a speech emphasizing the significance of
such events in strengthening ties and communication among faculty members from
all academic departments, spanning generations. Additionally, Mr. Falah
Al-Jaafreh, a former administrative employee at the college, was honored during
the ceremony for his valuable efforts and dedicated service.
Ø Academic Year 2023/2024: Six Master's Students Awarded
Research Grants from the International Institute for Hydraulic and
Environmental Engineering (IHE)
Six master's students from the College of Engineering have been awarded
research grants from the International Institute for Hydraulic and
Environmental Engineering (IHE) through the SafeagroMENA project. This project
aims to explore the possibility of reusing nutrient-rich treated wastewater to
achieve food self-sufficiency in the Middle East and North Africa region while
addressing health concerns related to emerging pollutants among small-scale
farmers through the implementation of environmentally friendly agricultural
tools. The master's theses of these students focus on pharmaceutical residue
removal from wastewater using advanced removal techniques such as adsorption,
photocatalysis, and electrocoagulation. These research efforts are jointly
supervised by Prof. Hussam Al-Hamaydeh and Prof. Salah Al-Jbour, indicating
collaborative efforts to address urgent environmental and agricultural
challenges in the region.
Ø Academic Year 2023/2024: Master's Student Hamzeh Al-Rawashdeh
from the Chemical Engineering Department Awarded MEDRC Water Research Grant
Master's student Hamza Al-Rawashdeh has been awarded a $5000 MEDRC Water
Research Grant. The MEDRC program is dedicated to enhancing professional skills
and technical research capabilities of young researchers in the water sector in
Palestine and Jordan. Hamza's master's thesis, supervised jointly by Prof.
Hossam Al-Hamaydeh and Prof. Salah Al-Jabour, focuses on pharmaceutical residue
removal from wastewater through electrocoagulation.

Salah Al-Jbour in the Third Nexus Conference: "Interconnectivity among
Water, Energy, Food, Environment, and Solid Waste Sectors"
Recently, Professor Salah Al-Jbour participated in the third Nexus
Conference: "Interconnectivity among Water, Energy, Food, Environment, and
Solid Waste Sectors." The conference was held under the gracious patronage
of His Royal Highness Prince Hassan bin Talal and brought together leading
experts and stakeholders to discuss urgent environmental challenges and
sustainable solutions. The conference took place from March 5 to 6, 2024, in
Amman and featured a series of sessions, including lectures and panel
discussions. Prof. Salah actively engaged in discussions regarding the nexus
between water, energy, food, and the environment. The conference also included
lectures and discussions on integrated waste management, fertilization,
recycling, business models, resource recovery, and the urgent need for green
hydrogen.

Department for Architect Amani Tabaza
The Architecture Department at Mu'tah University hosted architect Amani
Tabaza online via Teams on Thursday, March 14, 2024. Architect Amani shared her
extensive experience in commercial interior design after working on over 100
projects inside and outside Jordan. During the lecture, she discussed her journey
with interior design, the design process, and the significant challenges
interior designers face. This hosting aimed to enrich the knowledge of
fourth-year students while working on their project to redesign commercial
premises in Karak Governorate. On behalf of Mu'tah University and the
Architecture Department, we thank architect Amani for her time, effort, and
valuable advice to our students, and we look forward to further collaboration
in the future.
Sunday, March 10, 2024: Event Celebrating International Women's Day
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Jamal Bani Salameh, Dean of the College
of Engineering, the Women in Engineering Society at Mu'tah University,
affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
WIE, organized an event celebrating International Women's Day on Sunday, March
10, 2024. During the ceremony, the dean delivered a speech emphasizing the
importance of celebrating this day, which recognizes the role, contributions,
and significant achievements of women in all aspects of life. He highlighted
the pivotal role of women in Islam, unparalleled by any other position in other
religions and philosophies, and underscored the royal interest in Jordanian
women. The event featured informative lectures on women's participation
opportunities in various sectors, including energy, cybersecurity, and quality.
Dr. Rula Al-Rawashdeh, the branch supervisor, provided an overview of the Women
in Engineering branch at Mu'tah University, its goals, and future plans to enhance
the skills and capabilities of female students in engineering, science, and
technology. At the end of the event, the dean presented awards to participants,
emphasizing the importance of the role played by female academics and students
in the College of Engineering and the university as a whole.

University in Al-Balqa Applied University Conference
The representative of IEEE WIE Mutah University participated in the Al-Balqa
Applied University Conference on Saturday, March 9, 2024. The theme of the
conference was "From Venus to Universe," aiming to enhance students'
role in active engagement in society in general and in the engineering
community specifically. The second edition of the conference included various
topics, such as signing agreements to strengthen the close relationship between
universities and the local community. Additionally, the conference featured
numerous competitions in programming and artificial intelligence fields.
Distinguished speakers discussed the importance of identifying the correct
direction that enables individuals to innovate and excel in their chosen path.
One of the conference's themes addressed the significant and purposeful role of
women in shaping the future and the importance of focusing on building the
capacities of young women and refining their skills effectively. The conference
concluded with honoring the participating universities and presenting awards to
ambassadors.

Forum: Future Trends
Chemical engineering students at Mu'tah University, along with the
department head Dr. Al-Anoud Al-Sarayreh and Dr. Saja Al-Badairat, participated
in the Fourth Youth Chemical Engineering Forum: "Future Trends," held
at the Landmark Hotel on Saturday, March 9, 2024. The forum addressed key
topics in the field of chemical engineering and recent developments in industry
and the environment. The event included discussions on sustainability, the
environment, climate change, and the circular economy. It also covered the role
of chemical engineers in both the public and private sectors, research,
development, and investment opportunities.
Ø Wednesday, March 6, 2024, a field trip to the College of
Agriculture
The Department of Architecture Engineering at Mu'tah University, under the
organization of Dr. Yumna Aldmour and Dr. Jinan Abu Qadura, arranged a field
trip for third-year students to the College of Agriculture in the Raba area,
Al-Karak on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. The tour commenced with an introductory
lecture about the College of Agriculture, its departments, and its various
activities in the fields of plant production, animal production, food
industries, and evaluation. The lecture also highlighted the students'

Ø Sunday, January 21, 2024, the operational opening of the
Built Environment and Construction Systems Center at Hashemite University
Dr. Yazeed Jweihan, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, and Dr. Tareq
Al-Jaafreh participated in the operational opening of the Built Environment and
Construction Systems Center at The Hashemite University on Sunday, January 21,
2024. The aim was to explore avenues for future research collaboration and the
possibility of conducting joint qualitative research in the field of civil
engineering. This center, spanning an area of 3200 square meters, undertakes various
tasks, including providing high-precision tests, evaluations, and assessments
on structural elements and systems of natural sizes and building components for
the engineering sector and constructions within Jordan and abroad. It also
conducts qualitative research and provides education for graduate students in
civil engineering and construction engineering, equipped with state-of-the-art
equipment and advanced devices.
Ø Sunday, January 7, 2024, Sustainable Inn Project in Hmoud
Village
As part of the final project discussion for students enrolled in the Design
3 course, led by Dr. Lara Al-Shawawreh, a portion of the project
"Sustainable Inn in Hmoud Village" was discussed on Sunday, January
7, 2024. The discussion included Eng. Reem Halasa and Eng. Islam Al-Omari as
external examiners, and Dr. Jinan Abu Qadura and Dr. Yumna Aldmour as internal
examiners. Special thanks to our esteemed guests for their time and expertise
shared with our students, and we look forward in the Department of Architecture

Ø Thursday, December 21, 2023, Interactive Lecture between the
Department of Architecture Engineering and Berlin University of the Arts
The Department of Architecture Engineering at Mu'tah University, in
collaboration with UdK Berlin-Germany, held an interactive lecture on Thursday,
December 21, 2023. This lecture was part of the Environmental Control course
led by Dr. Jinan Abu Qadura. The lecture began with discussing the importance
of environmentally friendly design, showcasing examples of local sustainable
buildings. In this context, student projects were discussed, with each group
explaining the key sustainable strategies used. It's noteworthy that support
was obtained from EQUA company for the "IDA ICE Simulation" program
in collaboration with Udk Berlin University for one semester. Students
benefited from this program in studying thermal comfort and energy efficiency
in their projects throughout the semester. The College of Engineering and the
Department of Architecture express their gratitude to Professor Christoph and
EQUA Company for their support and look forward to continuous cooperation in
the future. They also extend sincere thanks to Dr. Jinan Abu Qadura for her
efforts in organizing and ensuring the success of this experience.

Department of Antiquities and Tourism
On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, the Department of Architecture Engineering
hosted Dr. Walaa Obiedat from the Department of Antiquities and Tourism to
speak with students enrolled in the Architectural Design 3 course taught by Dr.
Lara Al-Shawawreh about environmental and alternative tourism and Jordan's
vision in this regard through reviewing the map of sustainable tourism. Special
thanks to Dr. Walaa for the valuable information she provided. We take pride in
the faculty's expertise at Mu'tah University across all colleges and
departments, and we always look forward in the College of Engineering and the
Department of Architecture to exchanging experiences with them.
Ø Thursday, December 7, 2023, Field Trip of the Department of
Architecture to Dana and Shawbak
The Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University organized a field trip
to Dana and Shawbak on Thursday, December 7, 2023, for students enrolled in the
Design 3 course, coordinated by the course coordinator and instructor, Dr. Lara
Al-Shawawreh. The first stop of the visit was the guesthouse affiliated with
the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN), where they were warmly
welcomed by Mr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Khawaldeh, a representative of the Dana
community. He began by discussing the origins of the reserve and the
construction of the guesthouse by the architect Ammar Khmmash, followed by its
expansion in 2017, and the importance of this lodge and its related activities
in revitalizing the economic situation in Dana and employing the local
community. The students toured the guesthouse, its rooms, and took a walking
tour among the houses of Dana village to hear the stories of the places,
passing by handicraft workshops to learn about the place and the working women.
They then proceeded to the Anees Al Musher Center to experience the educational
activities there. The second stop of the visit was the Seven Wonders Cave Lodge
in Shawbak, where the owners, Dr. Mohammad Al-Kraimeen and his sons, hosted the
group. Mr. Alex, an employee at the lodge, guided the students, explaining the
unique importance of this lodge, as there are very few caves in the world currently
used as lodges. He also highlighted the significant challenges they faced in
making these natural caves suitable for accommodation and the solutions they
applied. The final stop was a visit to Shawbak Castle overlooking the Seven
Wonders Cave Lodge, where they learned about its historical significance from
one of the tour guides accompanying the students. Many thanks to the Royal
Society for the Conservation of Nature, represented by Mr. Abdul Razzaq
Al-Khawaldeh, for generously sharing their time and knowledge. Also, gratitude
to the reserve manager, Mr. Ra’ed Al-Khawaldeh, Mrs. Haya Bqa'een, and Mrs.
Rounza Al-Qussos for facilitating the visit.
Ø Wednesday, December 6, 2023, Field Trip of the Department of
Architecture to Hmoud Village in Karak
The Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University organized a field trip
to Hmoud Village in Karak on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, where the site of the
new project for the Design 3 course, Sustainable Inn Design, is located. The
trip was accompanied by the course coordinator and instructor, Dr. Lara
Al-Shawawreh. The students were accompanied by Dr. Mazen Al-Kheetan, Engineer
Muath Al-Kheetan, and Mr. Aysar Halasa. The tour began with the ancient church
of Hmoud, learning about its construction story and structural style. Then,
they visited the old market, where Engineer Muath explained the rich and
influential history of the market in the region, along with the history of the
mill and the old school. Finally, they toured a family home belonging to Mr.
Marwan Al-Kheetan, who shared the story of renovating the house while
preserving its old design. At the end of the tour, Engineer Ward Al-Kheetan
joined them, also sharing stories about the village heritage and the new
generation's connection to their ancestors' land. Many thanks to Dr. Mazen
Al-Kheetan from the Civil Engineering Department for hosting us in his village,
Hmoud, arranging the tour, coordinating with the speakers, accompanying us, and
providing the opportunity for students to interact with the local community.
Much love and appreciation to all the people of Hmoud for their hospitality and
cooperation with the students in all field trips, and we hope this project will
be implemented on the ground someday because Hmoud deserves it.
Ø Wednesday, November 29, 2023, Hosting Engineer Fouad Bajani
by the Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University hosted Engineer Fouad
Bajani, the Shelter & WASH Project Manager from the Norwegian Refugee
Council in Lebanon, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, to give a lecture to
students of the Humanitarian Architecture course taught by Dr. Lara
Al-Shawawreh. Engineer Fouad began his talk on the importance of humanitarian
architecture, presenting examples of successful shelter projects around the
world. He then moved on to classify shelters and their types, specifying the
appropriate field response pattern. He also explained the details of dealing
with wars and disasters through Lebanon's crisis in displacement from its south
during the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza and southern Lebanon. He shared
his experience and tasks during the emergency humanitarian response after the
Beirut port explosion in 2020. On behalf of the College of Engineering and the
Department of Architecture, we thank Engineer Fouad Bajani for his valuable and
passionate lecture that took us on a realistic journey around humanitarian
fieldwork, and we look forward to further cooperation in the future.

hosted Dr. Murad Al-Kalaldeh
The Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University hosted today, Sunday,
November 26, 2023, Dr. Murad Al-Kalaldeh, a consultant in urban planning and
the president of the Jordanian Forum for Environmental Design, to deliver a
lecture to fourth-year students in the Urban Planning course taught by Engineer
Enas Al-Bdour. Dr. Al-Kalaldeh discussed several topics related to design and
urban planning with the students, and presented a number of local and regional
projects he has worked on in the field of urban planning. Subsequently, the
stage of data collection for the Southern Mazar area, on which the students are
working to develop within the course, was discussed. The visit also included a
review of several projects by Dr. Lara Al-Shawawreh's third-year students in
the Architectural Design 3 course - Business Incubator Project. On behalf of

The Department of Architecture hosted Eng. Sara Naseer and Eng. Hanin Abu
Al-Haija on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Both engineers are from the University
of Science and Technology to give a lecture to second-year design students,
taught by Dr. Yumna Aldmour. The lecture covered various topics related to
architectural design for people with disabilities. It included an introduction
to the types of physical and mental disabilities and how to deal with design
voids and environmental adaptation to achieve comprehensive accessibility. The
lecture also showcased some experiments conducted during the Just-Able project,
which aims to promote the rights of people with disabilities in participation
and integration. On behalf of Mu'tah University and the Department of

The Department of Architecture hosted Dr. Hala Ghanem from Hashemite
University on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Dr. Hala gave a lecture to students
of the Humanitarian Architecture course, supervised by Dr. Lara Al-Shawawreh.
Dr. Hala covered various topics related to refugees and vulnerable communities
in urban areas, starting from defining the concepts related to humanitarian
architecture, moving on to theories concerning urban environment and its
relationship with human behavior, and concluding with a virtual tour of five
projects Dr. Hala worked on in collaboration with various entities, using
several research methods and theories. On behalf of Mu'tah University and the
Department of Architecture, we thank Dr. Hala Ghanem for this informative and
enriching lecture and look forward to further collaboration in the future.
Ø Thursday, November 16, 2023: Scientific visit for
architecture students
The Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University, under the organization
of Dr. Jinan Abu Qadurah, conducted a field trip for fourth-year students on
Thursday, November 16, 2023. The purpose of this visit was to cover some
scientific outcomes in two courses: Architectural Design (5) and Environmental
Control. The students were accompanied by Dr. Jinan Abu Qadurah and Dr. Yumna
Aldmour.
The first stop of the visit was the Environmental Mud House at Petra
University. The visit included a lecture by the Dean of the Faculty of
Architecture and Design, Dr. Amer Al-Jokhdar, and Eng. Yasmin Al-Saudi on
sustainable initiatives at Petra University. The campus of Petra University is
certified as a green and sustainable campus. The construction process of the
mud house and the strategies used in selecting building materials and testing
the mixture were explained. Thermal measurements demonstrating the
effectiveness of the building in summer and winter were presented, along with
global examples of sustainable mud buildings. A tour of the university
facilities, including an exhibition of students' works at the Faculty of
Architecture and Design, was also conducted.
The next stop for the students was a visit to the Ezzat Marji Group
building, where they learned about the key strategies applied, leading it to
achieve "A" grade certification as a green building according to the
Jordanian Green Building Guide and the highest level of LEED certification,
PLATNIUM.
The final stop of the visit was the Jordan Engineers Association, where the
Architectural Green Building Committee organized a workshop for Mu'tah
University students. The workshop aimed to introduce students to the
comprehensive concept of green building, its main axes, strategies, and
implementation methods. This was attended by a member of the Engineers
Association Council, Eng. Emad Aldabas, and the head and members of the
Architectural Green Building Committee, along with the representative of the
Jordanian Council for Green Buildings, Eng. Ghaida Salama. Eng. Heba El-Nazir,
the head of the Architectural Green Building Committee, delivered an
introductory lecture on green building and the shift towards energy-efficient
buildings as a means to address environmental problems, outlining all the
elements and strategies that can be applied to achieve green buildings to save
energy and provide a comfortable and healthy environment for users. The
workshop concluded with a competition to assess students' understanding of
green building concepts, where they were divided into groups and competed, and
the winning team was honored by the Jordanian Council. At the end of the
workshop, the committee members and organizers were honored.
Ø Wednesday, November 8, 2023: Virtual hosting of Urban
Planning Engineer Anwar Khweileh via Teams platform
The Department of Architecture hosted Urban Planning Engineer Anwar Khweileh
via the Teams platform for two sequential lectures in November. The lectures
aimed to introduce third and fourth-year students to ArcGIS software. Through
these lectures, students were introduced to the concept of data linking to
geographic location and its increasing importance in various fields in recent
years. Students also learned, through direct application, the importance of
software in urban planning and architecture. On behalf of the College of
Engineering and the Department of Architecture, we thank Engineer Anwar for the
time and effort she devoted to sharing her knowledge with us.

students in the Department of Architecture
The Department of Architecture held an orientation meeting for new students
on Thursday, November 2, 2023, under the theme "From Students to
Students." The meeting included several segments of advice, experiences,
competitions, and presentations of student projects from various years. The
segments were organized by student Ousaid Al-Adaileh, along with a large number
of his colleagues. This day embodied the concept of one family, which the
department takes pride in, with its administration, faculty, and students
embracing it. We welcome our new students to your big home at Mu'tah University
and among your second family, the Department of Architecture.
Ø Wednesday, November 1, 2023: the College of Engineering at
Mu'tah University held a meeting for incoming students
The Dean, Professor Jamal Bani Salameh, along with his deputy, assistants,
and department heads, convened with the newly enrolled students for the
academic year 2023/2024. Also present was the Dean of Student Affairs,
Professor Raed Al-Adaileh, and his assistants. Professor Bani Salameh
congratulated the new students on their acceptance to the College of
Engineering, providing an overview of the college's history since its establishment
and emphasizing its commitment to supporting the students throughout their
academic journey. He highlighted the forthcoming upgrades in infrastructure and
equipment for engineering labs and workshops, as well as the academic
departments' pursuit of international accreditation.
Furthermore, Dean Al-Adaileh discussed the role of the deanery in
facilitating student affairs, encouraging students to engage in cultural,
sports, and training activities complementary to their academic endeavors. He
stressed the importance of adhering to university regulations and directives.
The attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and express their inquiries,
concluding the meeting with interactive activities and symbolic awards.

Two teams from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Mu'tah
University participated in the Concrete Canoe Competition. These teams
collaborated with the American Concrete Institute branch at the university,
hosted by Yarmouk University. Supported by Mu'tah University's President,
Professor Salameh Al-Naimat, and Dean Jamal Bani Salameh, with supervision from
Dr. Tareq Al-Jaafreh, the competition featured 20 teams from 8 Jordanian
universities. Mu'tah University's team was notably active, benefiting from
networking opportunities, exposure to the latest civil engineering
technologies, and fostering creativity, challenges, and skill development.

The Department of Architecture hosted Dr. Duaa Al-Maani from the University
of Applied Sciences, delivering a lecture via Teams on architectural idea
generation. Dr. Duaa elucidated the significance of architectural ideas in
projects, transitioning from mere "building structures" to
"architecturally designed buildings," and discussed various methods
of expressing these ideas. The College of Engineering expressed gratitude to
Dr. Duaa for her enriching and interactive lecture, anticipating further
collaboration in the future.

the Department of Architecture hosted Ms. Serene Duwairi, the Incubation
Manager at iPark Joo, via Teams. Ms. Serene delivered an engaging lecture to
students of the Design 3 course, currently working on designing a business
incubator project in Karak city. She shared their unique experiences in
business incubation, challenges faced, and key decisions made through trial and
error over the years. The College of Engineering thanked Ms. Serene Duwairi for
accepting their invitation and looks forward to future collaboration.

Under the patronage of Mu'tah University's President, Professor Salameh Al-Naimat,
and in the presence of his deputy for administrative affairs, Professor
Mohammed Al-Saraireh, a scientific workshop entitled "Cybersecurity: Risks
from Cyber Attacks and How to Counter Them" was organized by the College
of Engineering. The workshop took place at 9:30 AM in the auditorium of the
Student Affairs Deanship. Its aim was to raise awareness about the importance
of cybersecurity, familiarize participants with prevalent cyber threats, and
discuss methods to mitigate them. Eng. Bassam Al-Maharma, the Director of the
Cybersecurity Center, delivered a lecture during the workshop, covering topics
related to cyber hygiene practices, cybersecurity in the metaverse, and a
student competition organized by the National Cybersecurity Center. The workshop
also featured a segment on the operational mechanism of the Electronic Crimes
Unit at the General Security Directorate and an IEEE branch discussion.
Additionally, a video featuring interviews related to the workshop's theme,
jointly produced by Mu'tah University, represented by the College of
Engineering, the National Cybersecurity Center, and the General Security
Directorate's Electronic Crimes Unit, was showcased. Professor Jamal Bani
Salameh, Dean of the College of Engineering, emphasized the importance of such
workshops in addressing societal issues relevant to all segments of society. He
stressed the necessity of raising awareness about dealing with anticipated
cyber threats, highlighting that everyone is part of the desired public
protection to eliminate malicious files exploiting digital vulnerabilities.

The Architectural Division of the Engineers Association, represented by its
head, Engineer Imad Al-Dabbas, along with members Engineer Shaker Khalif,
Engineer Osaid Al-Ayattan, and Engineer Ahmed Al-Tawarah, paid a visit to the
Department of Architecture at Mu'tah University. They were welcomed by the dean
of Engineering Prof. Jamal Bani Salameh, the deputy dean Prof. Salah Al-Jbour,
and the department chair Dr. Lara Al-Shawawreh, along with the department's
faculty members, Dr. Jinan Abu Qaddoura and Dr. Yumna Al-Dmour. The meeting
discussed avenues for collaboration between the department, the college, and
the Engineers Association, as well as opportunities for supporting the
department. The faculty members were briefed on the division's upcoming
activities, which provide educational and motivational opportunities for
architecture students to prepare them for the future job market. On behalf of

Mu'tah University's President, Professor Salameh Al-Naimat, welcomed a
delegation from South Korea and signed a memorandum of understanding for joint
cooperation. The delegation included Mr. Lee Jae-Young, the CEO of the Tar
Production Station, and Mr. Lee Young-Hee, the director of South Korea Energy
Corp, along with Ms. Lee Young-Hee, the executive director of the Korean Trade
and Investment Promotion Agency. The agreement, attended by Vice President for
Academic Affairs, Professor Mohammed Al-Majali, Vice President for
Administrative Affairs, Professor Mohammed Al-Saraireh, Dean of Engineering,
Professor Jamal Bani Salameh, and Dr. Tareq Al-Ja'afreh from the College of
Engineering, aims to implement field-based university training programs at the
Tar Production Station for qualified engineering students. Field trips will be
conducted to enhance students' technical skills and promote information
exchange between students and field engineers. The Korean delegation expressed
their delight with the visit and the joint cooperation, which will include
training courses and collaborative workshops to provide scientific information
related to energy generation and renewable energy to college students, with the
aim of increasing their knowledge base. President Al-Naimat commended this
mutual scientific cooperation, emphasizing the university's commitment to
realizing aspirations, particularly in the field of international cooperation
with partners from various national and international institutions. This
cooperation serves as the main axis in supporting students' journey throughout
their university years, combining theory and application to achieve the desired
goals aligned with national visions in this field.
